Mayor Affronti,

I am writing on behalf of the organization I chair, Americans Against Hate (AAH). We are an anti-bigotry and terrorism watchdog group based out of South Florida.

We understand that you have accepted awards from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and United Voices for America (UVA). We are writing to inform you of the fact that these organizations have documented ties to terrorist-related individuals and groups.

CAIR was created by Hamas operatives in 1994 and was recently named a co-conspirator by the U.S. Justice Department for a federal Hamas fundraising trial held in Dallas, Texas. UVA is headed by Ahmed Bedier, a former leader of CAIR and former unofficial spokesman for PIJ leader Sami al-Arian. Bedier has a radio show, which has been used to promote the terrorist organization Hezbollah.

Mr. Mayor, it is imperative that you give back the awards that you accepted from these extremist groups, CAIR and UVA, immediately. It is unbecoming of the office that you hold to accept such gifts from these groups.

If you recall, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio discontinued issuing proclamations to CAIR, after our organization sent her office material proving CAIR’s longstanding ties to Hamas. She ultimately did the right thing, and so should you.

Thank you for your time. We look forward to a prompt conclusion to this matter.
