FORT LAUDERDALE NEWSPAPER EDITOR GLORIFIES LEADER OF HAMAS-ASSOCIATED GROUP, DURING ROSH HASHANAH
CAIR LEADER, ALTAF ALI, HAD PREVIOUSLY DERIDED AMERICANS AGAINST HATE CHAIRMAN FOR BEING JEWISH
(Fort Lauderdale, FL) Antonio Fins, the Editorial Page Editor of the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel
, in his opinion piece today, offered praise to the former Executive Director of the Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Florida), Altaf Ali.
Fins stated, “I have a copy of the Quran, and it's a beautiful one at that. It was given to me as a gift years ago by Altaf Ali, the head of the local chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR… [L]ooking back now, I am not only grateful for his generosity, but respect and admire his efforts to reach out and build bridges.”
CAIR was founded in June 1994 by three operatives from the terrorist organization Hamas. The group was created as being a part of then-global head of Hamas Mousa Abu Marzook’s American Palestine Committee. Only two years ago, the U.S. Justice Department named CAIR a co-conspirator for a federal trial dealing with the financing of millions of dollars to Hamas.
In October 2001, while appearing on a local South Florida radio show, Ali derided Americans Against Hate (AAH) Chairman Joe Kaufman for being Jewish.
As well, in March 2008, Ali stood silently by his CAIR colleague, Jawhar Sadallah Badran, while Badran stated clearly into a microphone bearing a CAIR logo that Hamas was “not a terrorist organization.”
Regarding the Qurans that CAIR was giving away, one version was banned by the Los Angeles public school system for having numerous anti-Semitic commentaries.
Joe Kaufman stated, “It is shameful, given all of the Hamas-related information regarding CAIR and given the anti-Semitism practiced by Altaf Ali, that Antonio Fins would go out of his way to praise Ali on the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. Mr. Fins and the Sun-Sentinel
both owe all of their readers, especially their Jewish readers, a huge apology.”
