Contact: Joe Kaufman (

(Coral Springs, FL) On August 6th, Joe Kaufman, Chairman of Americans Against Hate (AAH), contacted all of the offices of Broward County's Commissioners, including the Mayor's and Vice Mayor's offices, to protest about the usage of Broward library facilities by a group that has been called an anti-Semitic front for the terrorist organization Hamas.

The group is CAIR or the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an entity that was created by the Hamas-affiliated Islamic Association for Palestine. CAIR is also the defendant in a lawsuit for the murder of an FBI agent during the 9/11 attacks, and the group has had numerous officials that have been convicted in and/or deported from the United States for terrorist activity.

Kaufman informed every one of the Commissioners' offices about the above information, yet as of now -- over a month since Kaufman brought forward his concerns -- absolutely nothing has been done about CAIR using the library facilities, facilities that are paid for by the taxpayers of Broward. CAIR is using the Main Library in Broward to give a series of lectures concerning Islam. The series is expected to conclude tomorrow night.

The only response that Kaufman received from any of the Commissioners was an e-mailed letter from Commissioner Ilene Lieberman. The letter read like a paid commercial for CAIR, at times almost quoting verbatim from CAIR's website. Lieberman stated that CAIR has "always taken a principled position against terrorism" and that the group's "track record provides credibility to their campaign of promoting mutual understanding in our society."

Nothing in those statements made by Commissioner Lieberman could be further from the truth. Either Ilene Lieberman is dangerously in denial of the facts or she is working with CAIR. In Lieberman's letter to Kaufman, Lieberman admitted that Broward County had co-sponsored the CAIR lecture series.

Today, AAH Chairman Kaufman issued a strong letter to Commissioner Lieberman, calling on her to take the initiative to have CAIR's final library lecture, taking place this Saturday night, shut down. The letter was sent to her e-mail address and was faxed to her office.

Kaufman stated, "It is outrageous that the government of Broward County would allow an organization, which has been widely reported to have ties to overseas terrorism, to use public facilities. It is even more offensive that Broward County would co-sponsor the events! We call on Broward County to deny any further usage of library facilities (or any government facilities) for CAIR activities, and we demand that whoever is responsible for this hand in their resignations without delay. Groups connected to terrorism should never be given public access."
