EDITOR OF CAIR'S QURAN SUBJECT OF
2002 FBI RAID

AAH QUESTIONS WHY CAIR CHOSE TO PROPAGATE
IIIT VERSION OF QURAN

(Coral Springs, FL) In February of 2002, Los Angeles city school officials pulled more than 300 copies of 'The Meaning of THE HOLY QURAN' from area school libraries. The Quran - an English translation published by Maryland-based amana publications - was found to have had numerous anti-Jewish commentaries contained within it. One of the cited commentaries read, "The Jews in their arrogance claimed that all wisdom and all knowledge of Allah was enclosed in their hearts… Their claim was not only arrogance but blasphemy."

In March of 2002, the editor of this Quran, the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), had its Virginia offices raided by the FBI, in a probe that targeted 14 businesses accused of financing terrorism. One of the groups IIIT was said to have financed was the World Islamic Studies Enterprise (WISE), the Palestinian Islamic Jihad front run by Sami Al-Arian.

Only months after the L.A. ban and IIIT raid, in September of 2002, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) began providing American libraries with 'The Meaning of THE HOLY QURAN' through its 'Explore Islamic Culture & Civilization' project. And in May of this year, CAIR began a new program whereby they will give a free copy of the amana-produced Quran to anyone that asks.

Americans Against Hate (AAH), a counter-terror watchdog group, questions why CAIR chose to use 'The Meaning of THE HOLY QURAN' in its programs, after all the controversy surrounding the book and the group that was involved in its creation.

Joe Kaufman, AAH Chairman, stated, "It's interesting that CAIR, a group that has denied accusations of anti-Semitism in the past, has elected to offer the American public a version of the Quran that has been deemed heavily anti-Semitic. Has CAIR done this because of IIIT's connection to Sami Al-Arian, a man that CAIR assisted by attempting to get his trial moved out of Tampa? Is it because IIIT had on its Board of Directors Ishaq Al-Farhan, an operative for Hamas, a group that CAIR itself has been linked to? Or is it simply CAIR showing its true anti-Semitic colors? These are all questions CAIR should be made to answer."
